Happy Wheels Characters: The Five Official Names and the Rest
Happy Wheels characters: the five names official stores confirm, what the in-game select screen shows, and how to treat community-only names and counts.
The official stores name five Happy Wheels characters: Wheelchair Guy (jet-powered wheelchair), Irresponsible Dad and his son (bicycle), Effective Shopper (electric cart), Business Guy (personal transporter) and Pogo Stick Guy (pogo stick). That is the list you can check word for word in the official descriptions. The select screen in the game plainly has more characters than five, but it only shows portraits, so anything beyond the official names can only be community record.
The five the official stores confirm
| Character | Vehicle | Where it is confirmed | Difficulty, judged by the vehicle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wheelchair Guy | Jet-powered wheelchair | App Store, Google Play | Medium: the jet gives you speed, but the rotation takes getting used to |
| Irresponsible Dad and his son | Bicycle with a child on the back | App Store, Google Play | Higher: a two-body rig, the kid flies with you |
| Effective Shopper | Electric cart | App Store says electric motor cart, Google Play says electric shopping cart | Lower: low centre of gravity, slow |
| Business Guy | Personal transporter | App Store, Google Play | Lower: it can jump, but the standing position is tall |
| Pogo Stick Guy | Pogo stick | App Store description only | Medium: everything depends on charging the bounce |
Note that Pogo Stick Guy only appears in the App Store description, not in the Google Play one. That is not us missing it; the two official store listings genuinely disagree.
What the in-game screen tells you
The “Select your character” screen in the official Steam screenshots is a grid of portraits, with unlocked and locked slots, and no names on any of them. That explains why “what are the characters called” keeps coming up, and why different community wikis give different names and different totals.
The community wiki (Fandom) counts 11 released playable characters and lists extra names such as Moped Couple, Lawnmower Man, Explorer Guy, Santa Claus, Irresponsible Mom, Helicopter Man and Segway Guy, plus 11 vehicles and two unreleased ones. Those characters are real and playable, but their names have no source on an official store page. We therefore label them as community record rather than folding them into the official list.

Picking a character that suits you
Choose by how the vehicle handles, not by how it looks.
- If you want stability: pick something low and self-propelled, like Effective Shopper or Wheelchair Guy.
- If you want mobility: pick something that jumps, like Business Guy or Pogo Stick Guy. Hopping over a small obstacle beats grinding through it.
- If you want a hard time: pick the two-body rigs, like Irresponsible Dad’s bicycle, where every crash takes the passenger with it.
- If you want to learn the physics first: play every character once on an easy level to feel how acceleration and leaning differ, then go back to the level you actually want to beat.
Vehicle handling and its trouble spots are covered in the vehicle comparison. The one character with a full page so far is Irresponsible Dad. For first-session advice, read the beginner guide.
