Yes, a Happy Wheels sequel exists. It also still has no release date, no screenshots and no store page. The developer, Jim Bonacci, has answered the question the same way in official news posts for years. The most direct line comes from 28 December 2020: “Yes, my full time job is still developing the sequel. No, I am a slow recluse and will not share anything.” He is not hiding it. He is simply saying he will not show work in progress.

The developer’s own words, in order

DateWhat the official news post says
2017-09-23“I’m still just working on the sequel to Happy Wheels”, “I’ve been building my own game engine from scratch” — the engine comes first, tools before content
2018-03-22“I am still working full time on the sequel”; the basic graphics engine was done and he had spent the past year on the new editor
2020-01-09“I’m still solely working on the sequel (and it is going well)”
2020-12-28“Yes, my full time job is still developing the sequel. No, I am a slow recluse and will not share anything.”

All four posts are on the official news page, so anyone can check them.

Why there has been no news for so long

The posts explain it. The sequel is not the old game recompiled on a new engine. Bonacci is building the engine and the editing tools himself from scratch. In 2017 he wrote that he had to learn a new language and build all his own tools before he could get to the creative part. In 2018 he added that making the vector drawing tools feel close to Flash had him planning pen-tablet support, just so he could draw his own art directly inside the editor.

That explains two things: why the original game is still being maintained in the meantime, the JavaScript version and then the Steam release, and why he keeps refusing to give a timetable. He admits in those same posts that he is “extremely poor at time estimates”.

Do not mistake the 2026 Steam release for the sequel

This is the part people mix up most. The game planned to unlock on 21 September 2026 is titled Happy Wheels on Steam, developed by Jim Bonacci and published by Fancy Force, and described as “now (finally) available, ad-free, on Steam”. It is a port of the original, with the full level editor and 5 million+ user levels. The details are on the Steam page.

Three places to check for yourself

  1. The official news page on totaljerkface.com. Any real sequel news will appear there first.
  2. The Steam store page. If the sequel goes live, the store entry will be indexed faster than the news.
  3. The official Discord at discord.gg/happywheels, which the developer confirmed as the official server in a 2018 post.

Community “Happy Wheels 2 leak” threads are only ever a lead. They have no official source behind them and none of them has ever panned out. Checking those three places once is enough. For the developer and the company, see the creator page.
