Happy Wheels Release Date: 2010 to 2026

The Happy Wheels timeline: the 2010 debut, iOS in 2015, JavaScript in 2020, the planned Steam date of 21 September 2026, and how to check the status.

The Happy Wheels timeline fits into four dates: a Flash browser game that first went public in 2010, an iOS release on 19 August 2015, the JavaScript version switching on 28 December 2020, and a planned Steam unlock on 21 September 2026. When we checked on 13 September 2026, the Steam store page still read “This game is not yet available on Steam”, so the Steam release had not opened yet.

The Android version has no official first-release date on record. All we can confirm is that the official news in December 2016 said it was still in development, rewritten in C++, and that the Google Play listing currently shows an update on 11 December 2025.

Why a 2010 browser game became release news in 2026

Because Flash nearly killed it. Once Chrome stopped supporting Flash, Happy Wheels would simply not open in a browser. The developer’s answer was to start a JavaScript version in early 2019 and ship it on 28 December 2020, keeping the existing database of users, levels and replays. In their own words, the only thing lost was “the impending doom of the end of existence”. With the online version alive, they were finally in a position to bring it to Steam with no ads and controller support.

One detail worth remembering: the JavaScript version renders at 60 fps but the physics still runs at 30 fps. The developer also warned in advance that older replays would play back inaccurately because of a Box2d change, and kept them anyway for the record.

Checking the current state yourself

  1. Open the Steam store page and see whether the purchase area shows a price or a planned release date.
  2. Cross-check the official news page for anything newer.
  3. If the two disagree, trust the store page and the official news. Third-party key resellers and social media reposts do not count.
